I have studied here for over two years and the academic progress I have made for the price is incredible, thanks to the excellent teaching staff. The teachers are highly committed to helping you learn and will happily answer questions that go beyond the standard syllabus. The online classes can feel rigid, with arbitrary grading criteria and an administration that is quite inflexible if you need to reschedule an exam.

The gist. This large chain operates across eight countries and has run classes for 55 years. Its Plaza Carso branch in Mexico City teaches Spanish alongside ten other languages in a modern commercial district.
What sets it apart. They use their own 'Interactive Accelerated Language System' alongside National Geographic materials, and offer a written money-back guarantee if you do not progress.
Best for. Choose this if you want a structured, certified method with flexible hours. Avoid it if you need guaranteed, uninterrupted group classes, as small groups sometimes get cancelled.
The lessons are highly dynamic and fun, with teachers from all over the world helping to build my speaking confidence. The teachers bring fantastic energy to the classroom, making everyone feel comfortable and ready to learn. My Spanish group class was cancelled without warning after a couple of months because there were not enough students, and finding a new group was very difficult.
4. Spanish in the City Language School
The gist. Founded in 2020, this school runs group and private courses entirely outside a traditional classroom.
What sets it apart. Classes are mobile. You spend two hours studying grammar in a local café, then spend another two hours practising conversation while walking through Condesa and Roma. Desks are replaced by parks, museums, and streets.
Best for. This suits active learners who want to explore the city while speaking. It will not work if you need a quiet room to focus or find four hours of walking tiring.
Splitting the day between grammar in a cosy café and active practice in parks and museums made me feel like a local rather than a tourist. I used to feel incredibly nervous about speaking Spanish in public, but learning in real-life situations completely built my confidence.
5. Escuela de inglés
The gist. Open since 1953 as part of a global network, this Hipódromo Condesa school teaches Spanish alongside teacher training and English certification programmes.
What sets it apart. The school holds Instituto Cervantes accreditation and weaves Mexican history, culture, and food into its lessons. You can also study for a professional diploma to teach Spanish as a foreign language.
Best for. This works well for solo travellers who want a structured, social community with group outings. It is not designed for self-paced study outside fixed hours.
I only planned to stay for six weeks but ended up extending my time to four months because my speaking skills improved so quickly. Travelling alone can be daunting, but the welcoming staff and social activities outside of class made the school feel like a family. The lessons focus on real communication, which helped me build my confidence and progress from intermediate to upper-intermediate level.
6. American Team Iztacalco
The gist. Based in Iztacalco, this language centre teaches Spanish and five other languages using a practical, conversational approach.

The registration staff and teachers were incredibly welcoming, and the dynamic lessons made it easy to interact with my classmates. I appreciate how patiently the instructors explain every topic, and having free extra classes to reinforce what we learn is a massive help.
7. Cursos de inglés IH-Live
The gist. This Condesa school belongs to the global International House network and runs accredited Spanish immersion alongside teacher training.
What sets it apart. With official Instituto Cervantes accreditation, the school lets you split your studies between Mexico City, Oaxaca, and Playa del Carmen. Because they train teachers for CELTA and DELTA qualifications, the academic standards are high.
Best for. This is for serious students who want an accredited programme and want to travel between campuses. It is not a good fit if you want a small, casual school with flexible hours.
The instructors are incredibly patient and supportive, guiding you through the material with clear, comprehensive lessons. I appreciate that the teachers give you plenty of time in class to absorb the concepts, and the online platform has lots of extra practice exercises. The staff are true experts in language teaching, making the lessons both highly professional and fun.
8. Walk Spanish Mexico City Language School
The gist. This school teaches Spanish without classrooms, taking students straight onto the streets.
What sets it apart. You study grammar in local cafés, then explore museums, Aztec ruins, and markets with your teacher. The lessons cover vocabulary, history, and food, with all entry fees included in the price.
Best for. This works for active travellers who want to learn on the move. It is a poor choice if you prefer a quiet room and a standard textbook.
Meeting in cafes for grammar and then exploring markets and ruins made my speaking confidence grow so much faster than in a normal classroom. I loved learning about Mexican history and culture on the move, even doing a private lesson while riding the Cablebus. The teachers and the daily trips are incredible, though the communication from upper management could be a bit more organised.
9. International House Mexico City
The gist. Based in Naucalpan de Juárez, this International House branch runs structured Spanish courses alongside English teacher training.
What sets it apart. The school focuses on academic structure, offering general language classes alongside teacher training and university degrees. As an official testing centre for international exams, it uses Cambridge materials and follows strict global standards.
Best for. This suits students who want a formal, academic setup in the Satélite area. It is impractical if you want a casual conversation class in central Mexico City.
When I was signing up and had a lot of questions, the staff replied to my emails incredibly quickly. The study and testing environment is very quiet, and the team here is exceptionally helpful. It is a beautiful neighbourhood with a very healthy and positive atmosphere for learning.
10. Insignia Languages México
The gist. This school runs private, tailored classes in eight languages, including Spanish, using a conversation-focused model.
What sets it apart. They use a 10-stage 'Project Oriented Learning' model that focuses on social communication. Teachers can meet you at your office or a local café, and there are no registration or material fees.
Best for. This is ideal for busy professionals who need flexible hours and want to study at work. It is not the right choice if you prefer structured group classes.
