The teachers are incredibly enthusiastic and supportive, which really helped me handle the stress of taking my official exam here. I loved my classes because the lessons are so engaging and fun, making the time pass incredibly quickly even if you are returning to study at an older age. My teacher was fantastic, but during my second week the group grew to thirteen students with quite different language levels in the same room.
2. Explora Langues
The gist. This school opened in 1998. It sits in Nice and focuses on private, one-on-one lessons for French and other languages.
What sets it apart. They use a special scale with 20 levels to see how much you improve. They teach you the exact words used in business fields like real estate and banking. They also send out a weekly newsletter with local news.

The gist. This large school started in 1986 in the center of Nice. It has ten modern classrooms and a big team of eighty teachers.
What sets it apart. It has top official quality marks. You can take classes that mix French with fun things like cooking, tennis, or carnival workshops. They also help you find local work, au pair jobs, or get ready for university.
Best for. Students who want to mix French classes with local culture, sports, or exam prep.
The teachers and reception staff are incredibly kind, and the clear lessons are perfectly adapted to your level. It is a highly organised exam centre where you can book and complete your language tests with very fast results. The flexible hours are perfect for au pairs, and the school offers fantastic after-class excursions to explore the local area.
4. EF Campus international de langues
The gist. This school opened in 1965. It sits just a short walk from the beach and welcomes students from all over the world.
What sets it apart. They use their own teaching system to mix computer work with classroom lessons. They have nine different paths, including special classes for teens, adults over 25, and people over 50.
Best for. Learners of any age who want to mix study with fun trips around the coast.
My French improved so quickly and the teachers were incredibly patient and supportive during our speaking activities. The cultural trips to nearby towns were a wonderful surprise, and the school terrace is a great place to make international friends. It felt a bit strange at times to share some of my classes with teenagers as an older student.
5. EF Séjours linguistiques
The gist. This big global company started in 1965. Their school in Nice offers French classes for everyone from young kids to seniors.
What sets it apart. They use special digital tools and promise you will move up one level every six weeks. They are also a certified travel group and helped train staff for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
Best for. Anyone who wants group classes and fun social events near the sea.
The teachers and staff are incredibly patient, creative, and professional, and the classes involve lots of great discussions that really helped me improve my spoken French. I loved being so close to the beach and meeting friends from all over the world, plus the school organised fantastic weekend trips and free activities like city tours. The school itself is wonderful, but the shared accommodation can feel very crowded and sometimes has maintenance issues that the staff are slow to resolve.
6. French Alliance Nice Côte D'azur
The gist. This famous school in the middle of Nice offers high-quality French classes with a team of fifty teachers.
What sets it apart. The school has its own campus with a building where seventy-five students can live. It also has a café and a big library. They hold top academic marks and plant a tree for every student who signs up.
Best for. Serious students who want to live on campus, get ready for university, or practice for official tests.
My teacher was incredibly patient and used fun games to keep us focused, which really helped build my confidence when speaking to locals. We took a small class focused on conversation where we practised everyday situations and role-play with a very warm and funny tutor. The campus has a wonderful atmosphere and a fantastic café, and the staff made me feel welcome from my very first day.
7. Audra Langues
The gist. This training center has been teaching French and ten other languages in Nice since 1986.
What sets it apart. They focus on hybrid classes, which means you learn both in person and online. They help you learn specific words for jobs in medicine or finance, and they help you pass official tests.
Best for. Professionals who need to build work skills and pass language exams.
My teacher was incredibly patient and the management team was so efficient at organising my custom lessons. I loved the kind and non-judgmental atmosphere which really helped me build my confidence quickly.
8. Institute de Francais
The gist. This school started in 1969. It is a top choice for adults who want to study French for eight hours a day in a beautiful country house.
What sets it apart. You learn by speaking all day. You even eat fancy three-course meals with your teachers to practice. The school sits in a beautiful villa with gardens that look out over the sea.
Best for. Adults who want to learn French very fast through a busy, full-time schedule.
The immersive programme made it almost impossible not to see huge improvements in my speaking, and eating three-course lunches with views of the bay was an absolute treat. The teachers are incredibly dedicated and patient, helping me jump from using a basic phone app to reaching an intermediate level in just four weeks. It is a very tough course if you are an absolute beginner, and I wish they would offer digital files instead of giving us so many paper handouts every day.
9. Alpha-b French Language School
The gist. This independent school started in 1993. It runs out of a beautiful old villa in the center of Nice.
What sets it apart. It is the only school in Nice with three top quality awards. Students use the school's own grammar books and read real French newspapers. You can also relax in the private garden between classes.
Best for. Adults and families who want great classes and fun local trips.
The teachers are fantastic and they actually listened to what we wanted to learn, making the lessons feel very personal. I loved the daily excursions like walking tours and trips to local towns, which helped me practice my French outside the classroom. The lessons are highly structured and entertaining, and the staff are incredibly quick to help if you need to change to a more challenging class.
10. Sprachcaffe French Language School Nice
The gist. This school is part of a global group that started in 1983. They offer French classes for teens and adults in Nice.
What sets it apart. They focus on speaking and conversation. You can also mix your classes with fun trips and events run by their global network.

I had an amazing time in Nice because the school has a very friendly, professional atmosphere and the student apartments are in a great location. The classes were way too crowded with over twenty students in one room, and the staff did not seem to care when I complained about the group size.
