My intensive class was highly interactive and fun, and the teachers worked incredibly hard to help us learn. The classes are small and personal, which made it very easy for me to make new friends quickly. The administration can be very inflexible with absences, and they did not handle my complaints well when issues came up.
3. Inlingua Léman

The lessons are highly interactive and the teachers use a great mix of video, books, and online exercises to keep things fun. I really appreciated the smooth organisation and the helpful online platform where I could practise my grammar.

The teachers are incredibly patient and always take the time to explain things again if you do not understand. I loved how the lessons adapted perfectly to my personal pace, which helped me progress quickly and pass my exam. The warm welcome and amazing personal support turned my scary career change into a really fun adventure.
5. Swiss French School
The gist. This school has taught French in Geneva since 1986. They use a method that surrounds you with the language.

My advisor explained the study method clearly, and the small classes of five people meant I got plenty of attention. The teachers are fantastic, and I was very satisfied with the high quality of the intensive French programme. The school has lovely premises and offers a huge range of classes to try. The team is excellent and they answered all of my questions perfectly.
7. PROPER Languages SA
The gist. This school started in 2000. It offers personal French classes and fifteen other languages.
What sets it apart. The school has an official Swiss quality label called eduQua. They design custom lessons for people who work in luxury goods, banking, and watchmaking.
Best for. Expats who need to pass the FIDE test or workers who need to learn special words for their jobs.
My teacher tailored the lessons perfectly to help me prepare for the Fide test, which also boosted my overall French skills. The conversation classes are brilliant for practising when you do not have much time but want to speak more fluently. I love how my teacher creates bespoke lessons that match my specific area of work and personal interests.
8. Bell Language School
The gist. This international school in Geneva has taught adults and children since 1955.

The naturalisation course prepared me perfectly for my interview and made me feel so much more comfortable speaking French. I was very nervous before my exam, but the staff were so kind and reassuring that I relaxed straight away. Taking my test here was a great experience because the team was friendly, efficient, and everything ran exactly on time.

The gist. This Geneva school started in 2019. It teaches French, English, German, and Spanish.

I started with almost no French, but the patient teachers helped me build my confidence and speaking skills very quickly. The lessons are engaging and prepare you for real life, and the monthly trips outside the classroom are a great bonus. I love how flexible the staff are, and they even let me try a class first to see if it suited me.
10. Université Populaire du Canton de Genève
The gist. This non-profit group has offered cheap classes for adults in Geneva for over forty years.
What sets it apart. All the teachers here are volunteers. The state and city help pay for the school, so the classes are very cheap. They focus on helping people settle into Swiss life. You can take classes in reading, writing, or speaking.
Best for. People on a budget who want to practice speaking French and make new friends.
I have studied French here for three years and love how affordable it is, plus the volunteer teachers are incredibly dedicated. It is a wonderful place to meet other people from different countries and make new friends while you learn. Since the teachers are volunteers, some of them do not have professional training, so you have to be patient.
