The intensive course was incredibly effective and took me from speaking no Dutch at all to being fully functional at work and in daily life. My teacher was so flexible and adapted the lessons to my busy work schedule, and my improvement is very noticeable. The administration can be disorganized, and having my teacher change three times in five weeks made it hard to keep my momentum.
2. Bxl Academy
The gist. This school in the Brussels European district started in 2013. It has seventy teachers who help expats and workers learn Dutch.
What sets it apart. Many EU offices and embassies trust this school. They offer morning, evening, and super-fast classes. You will use the school's own online site to study. The lessons focus on real skills like business talk and Selor exam prep.
Best for. Expats and workers who need flexible classes that fit around a busy job.
The teachers are absolutely fantastic and use different, highly effective approaches that helped me learn a lot in a short time. My classes were incredibly dynamic and well-structured, which gave me a massive boost in my everyday speaking confidence. The lessons themselves are great, but the administration changed my schedule at the last minute and paired me with a student of a different level.
3. F9 Languages in Brussels
The gist. This is the official language school of the Université Libre de Bruxelles. It offers flexible Dutch classes for people, companies, and charity groups.
What sets it apart. They build lessons around your own goals. You can study in person or online. Classes run from early morning until late at night so you can find a time that works for you.
Best for. Workers and charity staff who need flexible hours and lessons that teach the exact words they use at work.
My teacher really understood my workplace and the exact vocabulary I need, which gave me the confidence to start speaking at work. I started as a complete beginner and felt ready to pass my exam after just two months of lessons. I had a few technical issues with my digital access codes at the start, but the support team called me back quickly and sorted it out.
4. Instituto Cervantes Bruselas
The gist. This official Spanish government center started in 1991. It offers Dutch classes alongside its Spanish and Catalan lessons.
What sets it apart. This center is famous for Spanish, but it also has a special Dutch course made just for Spanish speakers. You can study in person or online. You also get to use their big library and join cultural events.
Best for. Spanish speakers in Brussels who want to learn Dutch in a friendly place.
The language courses are excellent and the cultural events like lectures and discussions are fantastic. It is a brilliant place to study and easily the best way to learn. It can be hard to get a response to emails or phone calls, and the courses are quite expensive.
5. CVO Semper campus Brussel
The gist. This large school for adults works with the Brussels Chamber of Commerce. It offers structured Dutch classes from beginner to advanced levels.
What sets it apart. They have special classes like Dutch for doctors, academic Dutch, and job interview prep. Students also get free Microsoft 365 accounts and can use the Moodle study site.
Best for. Students who want professional training with online and evening options.
The teachers are incredibly patient and supportive, which really helped build my confidence when speaking. I loved how dynamic and well-structured the lessons were, with creative activities that made learning fun.
6. EPFC
The gist. This huge adult school started in 1963. It has 450 teachers and offers good Dutch classes that do not cost too much.
What sets it apart. It is the biggest adult school in Brussels. It works with local universities and has special teams to help students succeed. You can take classes during the day, in the evening, or on weekends. They also run Dutch talk groups.
Best for. Adults who want a structured school with many different class times.
The teachers are incredibly kind and the lessons are very serious, making it easily one of the best language schools in the city. It is amazing value for money and everything is highly organized once you are actually in the classroom. The registration process is a nightmare because the website crashes and spots in the evening classes sell out in literally one minute.
7. Eurospeak Brussel
The gist. This school in Ixelles started in 2003. It teaches Dutch for work to everyone from builders to managers.
What sets it apart. They focus on helping you find the courage to speak. They use mixed online and in-person classes. They also run workshops to help managers talk to staff who are still learning, and they have special classes for building and shipping jobs.
Best for. Workers who need practical Dutch for their daily jobs and want to feel brave when speaking.
The small, interactive groups are fantastic, and my teacher had so much positive energy and patience to help me feel confident. The course structure is highly logical, which made difficult grammar feel much more approachable and easy to grasp. The learning facilities are quite basic, but the location is very convenient and close to the metro.
8. CVO Lethas Brussel campus Ganshoren
The gist. This adult school in Ganshoren offers flexible Dutch, French, and English classes.
What sets it apart. You can choose from three different speeds to match how fast you learn. They use two teachers at the same time for big groups. They also have special tracks like Dutch for healthcare workers and business owners, plus classes just for pronunciation.
Best for. Adults who want to choose their own learning speed and need Dutch for their jobs.
My teacher was incredibly passionate and caring, which made learning Dutch so motivating and helped me truly understand the language. The professors are very prepared and helpful, and I have made great progress with my language skills here. The registration process can be frustrating because you have to wait weeks for a placement test, and by the time you finish, the class you want might already be full.
9. CLL Centres de Langues
The gist. This big Belgian language school was started by the university UCLouvain in 1984. It offers professional Dutch classes in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert.
What sets it apart. The school has strong university roots and an official quality badge. Students use a mix of in-person classes and online tools on the school's own digital site.
Best for. Learners who want high-quality mixed classes or official exam prep backed by a university.
My teacher was incredibly passionate and honest, helping me understand exactly where I made mistakes while the admin team made everything run smoothly. The lessons are very well-planned and the small group sizes mean you get a lot of personal attention and highly effective practice. I had a long delay getting my money back when my group course could not be confirmed, which was quite frustrating.
10. CVO Brussel
The gist. This large Flemish adult school has been teaching Dutch, French, and English in Brussels since 1984.
What sets it apart. It is an official school, so it offers free Dutch classes up to the B1 level for people who live in the area. You can study in person or online. They even have classes that mix Dutch with computer skills or driving rules.
Best for. Brussels locals who want free or cheap group classes from beginner to advanced levels.
This is a really great place to start learning a new language. The administration can be very hard to reach, and I spent a long time on hold trying to get through to the office.
