My teacher used great exercises and very clear planning, which helped me get the most out of my private lessons. The school has a very friendly feel and the professional teachers are always ready to help you. The admin team was hard to reach and sent my bill months late, and the lessons mostly just followed the book.
3. Masterclass English
The gist. This school opened in 2007 in the middle of Rotterdam. They teach professional Dutch classes alongside their main English exam courses.
What sets it apart. They are an official exam center. They mix online and in-person classes using very organized books. They will even give you your money back if you do not pass your official exam after taking their course.
Best for. Working people and expats who want organized evening classes in a real exam center.
My teacher was incredibly dedicated and gave me detailed feedback on my homework even over the weekend. The lessons are fun and challenging, and the games and extra materials really helped build my speaking confidence. I loved the supportive atmosphere in class because it meant I was never afraid of making mistakes.
4. Business Talen Rotterdam Holding
The gist. This school has taught business Dutch in Rotterdam since 1988.
What sets it apart. You get a free test and a free trial lesson to see where you should start. They are an officially approved school, so they build classes around your exact job. They also send you regular reports to show how much your Dutch is improving.
Best for. Professionals who need flexible, work-focused Dutch lessons to talk with coworkers and neighbors.
The private lessons were perfectly tailored to my job, which helped me build a much better relationship with my work team. The teachers are highly qualified and the excellent materials really helped me feel at home in the local community. I was very worried to learn about serious complaints regarding how the school manages integration budgets and its official recognition.
5. Masterclass Dutch
The gist. Located in the middle of Rotterdam, this school has taught Dutch and English since 2007.
What sets it apart. You can study at their school near Blaak station or join online. They offer ten-week evening classes, fast two-week summer courses, and business training.
Best for. Students who want flexible evening classes or fast summer lessons right in the city center.
I felt very safe and supported here as a beginner, and the friendly teachers really helped me find the confidence to start speaking. The intensive summer course was fast and demanding, but the daily activities and small group size made the lessons highly enjoyable. I had some issues with my level placement and there was some confusing mix-up between the online and physical class materials.
6. ABC Dutch Rotterdam
The gist. This school focuses only on teaching Dutch to expats, international students, and working professionals.
What sets it apart. Instead of just using standard textbooks, they teach with real-world things like local newspapers. They also use fun learning games and proven study methods to help you speak without fear.
Best for. Expats and students who want to pass their integration exams or practice speaking in active groups.
The teachers are incredibly supportive and use fun games to help you learn vocabulary and grammar. I felt so much more confident speaking Dutch after practising real conversations and role-plays in class. They gave me all the tools I needed to prepare for my integration exams and understand the local culture.
7. Dutch Language Institute ITHA
The gist. Milo runs this small Rotterdam school, which opened in 1991. It teaches fast-paced Dutch to professionals with university degrees.
What sets it apart. Classes are very small, with only four to six students, and they use their own custom textbooks. They also offer special classes made just for fields like medicine and architecture.
Best for. Researchers and professionals who need fast, busy training to use Dutch at work.
I was amazed at how fast I progressed and could have basic daily conversations in less than two months. The classes are very small and interactive, so you get a lot of personal attention from the teacher. The course is very intensive, so you must be ready to spend a lot of time preparing after class.
8. Dutch Courses Rotterdam
The gist. This school has taught Dutch and academic English to expats and refugees since 2000.
What sets it apart. They use their own study guides and an online student website instead of normal textbooks. They hold several official quality badges and offer special classes, like medical Dutch for doctors.
Best for. Professionals and expats who want fast, organized study to get ready for official exams.
The classes are small and very active, which gave me plenty of time to practise speaking and get helpful feedback. You have to do a lot of independent study at home, but the structured lessons made me feel ready for my integration exams. While the teaching is good, I felt the school cared more about the fees than my actual progress.
9. CBE Languages
The gist. This private school has taught Dutch and English to adults in Rotterdam since 1997.
What sets it apart. The school works like a social club where you can practice your skills at regular meetups. They use a popular textbook to teach everyday Dutch, and they are also an official Cambridge exam center.
Best for. Adults who want to learn everyday Dutch in a friendly, social place.
I took Dutch classes here with my partner and we got a great foundation while making wonderful friends. It is a real social hub with a warm atmosphere, and the teachers make sure you speak as much as possible. The lessons are fun and engaging, which helped me steadily improve my Dutch from absolute zero.
10. Sagènn Educatie Rotterdam
The gist. This school started in 1998. It helps people get ready for their official Dutch integration exams.
What sets it apart. They do more than teach Dutch. They also offer classes in math and computer skills. You use an online tool to study at your own speed while teachers help you in the classroom.

The teachers are great and the evening classes fit perfectly around my work. I love that they have classes for every level, starting right from the alphabet. It is hard to plan when they only tell you your class is starting at the last minute.
