Guiding nature tours – HearSay

Spanish B2

Learn about nature tourism by listening to a conversation between Daniel and Sofía about guiding local routes and trails. It might seem tricky at first, but by the end of this course you'll be able to understand everything and participate fully.

Lessons

Confirming the number of attendees
Daniel and Sofía rest after walking up the hill and check how many people will actually come to tomorrow's hike.
Managing participant needs
Sofía warns Daniel about the medical conditions of several attendees, and they figure out how to adapt the route.
Proposing a longer route
Sofía suggests extending the afternoon hike to Ulía, but Daniel raises doubts because of how hard it might be for the group.
Assessing weather and safety
Daniel checks the clouds and warns of strong winds on the cliffs, rejecting the proposal for safety reasons.
Postponing a plan for later
Sofía agrees to leave the Ulía route for the weekend, and they both agree to only do the climb up Urgull.
Planning stops along the route
Sofía and Daniel organise the initial route to the Batería de las Damas and remember stories about the local plant life.
Commenting on local heritage facts
Sofía suggests stopping at the English cemetery, and Daniel explains how to tell if the air is clean by looking at lichens.
Suggesting a relaxation break
Sofía explains her idea of doing a breathing exercise with the group, and Daniel jokes about what happened last time.
Deciding on the museum visit
After agreeing on the rest stop, Sofía and Daniel decide whether to go inside the castle museum or stay at the outdoor viewpoint.
Highlighting panoramic viewpoints
Daniel mentions the places visible from the lookout and tells Sofía about his years of experience as a lifeguard in the bay.
Setting plans for rain
Sofía asks what to do if the weather gets worse, and Daniel suggests shortening the route or postponing it depending on how hard it rains.
Coordinating gear and food
Sofía and Daniel divide up the first aid kit and raincoats, and suggest going for food in the Old Town when they finish.
Choosing a restaurant and menu
Daniel suggests going to his cousin's bar for pintxos and books a table, while Sofía asks him to make sure there are options suitable for diabetic participants.
Summarizing the schedule and wrapping up
Sofía reviews the final plan before heading down with Daniel.
