Frequently asked questions.
We believe classrooms and teachers are the most effective way to learn a language, and we don't want a world where AI replaces them. That's why we partner with schools like Koentact: HearSay is built to support your in-class learning, not replace it. And as a young startup, offering these courses free is how we learn and improve together with your school.
These courses were built with your school to match your syllabus, so HearSay is practice between lessons, not a replacement. You'll recognise the vocabulary and situations from class.
If you'd like the full HearSay library, with all 20 languages, unlimited courses, and your AI tutor for anything you like, you can subscribe whenever you want. There's no pressure: your Koentact courses stay free, and we won't send you promotional messages unless you ask.
No. Your Koentact courses are free and stay free: we don't ask for your card, so there's nothing that can be charged. The full HearSay library is a separate subscription you'd have to actively sign up for.
HearSay sends you personalised audio language lessons as voice messages on WhatsApp. Each lesson is a real conversation between native speakers, built around a topic you choose and matched to your level.
You listen and speak along hands-free while walking, driving, or cooking. An AI tutor in the same chat answers your questions, explains grammar, and creates new lessons whenever you ask.
No. HearSay runs entirely inside WhatsApp, so there's nothing to install and no new app to remember. If your phone has WhatsApp, you're ready: your first lesson arrives in your chat a few minutes after you sign up.
Yes, and there are two big reasons for it:
- It fits into your daily routine. You can learn while commuting, exercising, or doing chores, instead of carving out screen time.
- It builds better pronunciation. When we read written words, we tend to apply the rules of a language we already know. Learning by ear helps you sound natural from the start.
Yes. HearSay covers all six CEFR levels, from absolute beginner (A1) to near-native (C2).
Beginner lessons use slower, clearer speech and simpler dialogues, and the pace picks up as you progress. You set your level when you start and can change it any time by messaging your tutor.
Yes. You speak out loud in every lesson, repeating and recalling phrases before you hear the answer. You're never recorded during lessons, so you can practise comfortably even in public.
At the end of a lesson you can join an optional roleplay call to act out the conversation with your AI tutor. Those calls are recorded, and personalised feedback on your speaking is coming soon.
You can learn 20 languages with HearSay, including Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and Hindi, plus regional variants like Latin American Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.
You also learn in your own language: all 20 are supported as your native language too, so you can learn Russian as a French speaker or Spanish as a German speaker. Switch languages whenever you like.
HearSay uses the audio-lingual method: you learn by hearing real dialogues, speaking along, and actively recalling phrases, with spaced repetition bringing them back just as you're about to forget.
A good rule of thumb: once you get around 80% of a lesson's phrases right, you're ready to move on. Plenty of learners repeat a lesson a few times first, and that's completely fine.
Always. The HearSay support team is a message away: email team@hearsaylearn.com, or just ask in your WhatsApp chat and you'll get a link to our human support WhatsApp number.
