# First steps: What I like

**Language:** Japanese
**CEFR Level:** A1

> Join Fujii and Nakai for a morning of tasting things at the market, one short conversation at a time. Each lesson trains your ear until you can follow every word and answer back.

**Setting:** A Sunday morning market in Tokyo. Nakai has had this stall for forty years and talks to everyone casually; Fujii comes most weeks and answers him politely, the way a younger customer does. He speaks in plain form and she holds です・ます — the gap is fixed from the first line and neither of them crosses it.
