# First steps: My family and my day

> Master talking about your day by listening to Hana and Paul's conversation about work and family. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** The sidewalk outside an elementary school in Chicago at three in the afternoon, with parents waiting for the doors to open. Hana and Paul stand next to each other most days and today they start talking.

## Lessons

### 1. Saying what you do for work

Hana and Paul find out what the other does for a living.

### 2. Talking about your children

Hana and Paul say how many children they each have.

### 3. Saying who you live with

Paul tells Hana who is at home, and she does the same.

### 4. Saying what time you get up

Paul asks Hana what time her day starts.

### 5. Saying where you eat meals

Hana and Paul compare where they eat during the day.

### 6. Talking about your evening

Paul tells Hana he works evenings and goes to bed late.

### 7. Meeting the children after school

The children come out, and Hana and Paul say goodbye.
