# First steps: Where I'm from

> Listen in as Hala and Youssef talk about where they come from in real, everyday Egyptian Arabic. By the end of this course their conversation will feel easy to follow, and you'll be ready to join in.

**Setting:** A bus stop on a busy street in Alexandria on a weekday morning. Hala waits here every day, and today Youssef starts talking to her. They have not met before, but speak to each other informally.

## Lessons

### 1. Saying which country you're from

Hala and Youssef get talking at the bus stop and find out they are from different countries.

### 2. Saying which city you're from

Hala and Youssef name the cities they grew up in.

### 3. Saying where you live now

Hala and Youssef discover they both live here in the city.

### 4. Saying which street you live on

Youssef and Hala work out that they live close to each other.

### 5. Saying which languages you speak

Youssef and Hala compare the languages they each speak.

### 6. Hearing about another country

Youssef asks Hala whether she knows Sudan, and she says she does not.

### 7. Saying where your family lives

Youssef and Hala say where their families are.
