# Dutch Experience 1 for Koentact Students (Part 2)

> Review and master the basics of A1.1 Dutch daily life while practicing your listening and speaking skills on the go. This interactive course is inspired by Chapters 1-5 of Nederlands In Gang.

**Setting:** Set in the lively university city of Utrecht, following the daily encounters of a new student and a local resident. Experience authentic Dutch situations ranging from campus canteens to bustling local markets.

## Lessons

### 1. Ordering at the cafe

Order drinks and offer to pay for the first round

**Vocabulary:**
- het café (the cafe)
- de koffie (the coffee)
- drinken (to drink)
- bestellen (to order)
- trakteren (to treat / pay for a round)
- het biertje (the beer)
- alstublieft (please)

**Objectives:**
- Order and pay for drinks in a café setting
- Offer to treat someone to a drink

### 2. Birthdays and months

Wish someone a happy birthday and discuss dates.

**Vocabulary:**
- de verjaardag (the birthday)
- vieren (to celebrate)
- gefeliciteerd (happy birthday / congratulations)
- de maand (the month)
- januari (January)
- eerste (first)
- tweede (second)

**Objectives:**
- Congratulate someone on their birthday
- Understand and use basic ordinal numbers

### 3. Making an appointment

Bump into a friend on the street and arrange a meet-up

### 4. Accepting or deciding plans

Suggest going to the cinema and respond to different invitations.

- lukken (to work out / succeed)

**Objectives:**
- Make a proposal using the modal verb zullen

Head to the local market to pick up vegetables for dinner.
