# First steps: Numbers, prices and paying

> Join Birgit and Poul for a Saturday morning of prices and change, one short conversation at a time. Each lesson trains your ear until you can follow every word and answer back.

**Setting:** A fruit and vegetable stall at the Saturday market in Odense, busy but not rushed, with bread and eggs from the farm at one end. Birgit comes most weeks and Poul knows her face. They use du with each other.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking what something costs

Birgit asks Poul what the apples cost at his market stall.

### 2. Asking a price again

Birgit misses the price of the tomatoes and asks Poul to say it again.

### 3. Asking the price of more items

Birgit asks Poul what the bread and the eggs cost.

### 4. Saying how much you want

Poul asks how much Birgit wants, and she fills her bag.

### 5. Asking for the total

Birgit asks Poul what it comes to all together.

### 6. Paying in cash

Poul turns out to take cash only, so Birgit pays with two hundred.

### 7. Understanding your change

Poul counts out Birgit's change and sends her off.
