# First steps: Numbers, prices and paying

> Join Rosa and Nino for a Saturday morning of prices and change, one short conversation at a time. Each lesson trains your ear until you can follow every word and answer back.

**Setting:** A fruit and vegetable stall at the Ballarò market in Palermo, busy but not rushed, with bread and eggs from the farm at one end. Rosa comes most weeks and Nino knows her face. Both hold Lei throughout.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking what something costs

Rosa asks Nino what the apples cost at his market stall.

### 2. Asking a price again

Rosa misses the price of the tomatoes and asks Nino to say it again.

### 3. Asking the price of more items

Rosa asks Nino what the bread and the eggs cost.

### 4. Saying how much you want

Nino asks how much Rosa wants, and she fills her bag.

### 5. Asking for the total

Rosa asks Nino what it comes to all together.

### 6. Paying in cash

Nino turns out to take cash only, so Rosa pays with a twenty.

### 7. Understanding your change

Nino counts out Rosa's change and sends her off.
