# First steps: Numbers, prices and paying

> Join Carmen and Tomás for a Saturday morning of prices and change, one short conversation at a time. Each lesson trains your ear until you can follow every word and answer back.

**Setting:** A fruit and vegetable stall at a neighbourhood market in Madrid on a Saturday morning, busy but not rushed. Carmen comes most weeks and Tomás knows her face. They use tú with each other.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking what something costs

Carmen asks Tomás what the apples cost at his market stall.

### 2. Asking a price again

Carmen misses the price of the tomatoes and asks Tomás to say it again.

### 3. Asking the price of more items

Carmen asks Tomás what the bread and the eggs cost.

### 4. Saying how many you want

Tomás asks how much Carmen wants, and she fills her bag.

### 5. Asking for the total

Carmen asks Tomás what it comes to all together.

### 6. Paying in cash

Tomás turns out to take cash only, so Carmen pays with a note.

### 7. Understanding your change

Tomás counts out Carmen's change and sends her off.
