# First steps: Numbers, prices and paying

> Join Greta and Timo for a Saturday morning of prices and change, one short conversation at a time. Each lesson trains your ear until you can follow every word and answer back.

**Setting:** A market stall at the Saturday market in Hamburg-Altona, fruit and vegetables plus eggs and bread from the farm, busy but not rushed. Greta comes most weeks and Timo knows her face. Both hold Sie throughout.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking what something costs

Greta asks Timo what the apples cost at his market stall.

### 2. Asking a price again

Greta misses the price of the tomatoes and asks Timo to say it again.

### 3. Asking the price of more items

Greta asks Timo what the bread and the eggs cost.

### 4. Saying how much you want

Timo asks how much Greta wants, and she fills her bag.

### 5. Asking for the total

Greta asks Timo what it comes to all together.

### 6. Paying in cash

Timo turns out to take cash only, so Greta pays with a twenty.

### 7. Understanding your change

Timo counts out Greta's change and sends her off.
