# First steps: Numbers, prices and paying

**Setting:** A fruit and vegetable stall at the Saturday farmers market in Seattle, busy but not rushed. Grace comes most weeks and Tom knows her face.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking what something costs

Grace asks Tom what the apples cost at his market stall.

### 2. Asking a price again

Grace misses the price of the tomatoes and asks Tom to say it again.

### 3. Asking the price of more items

Grace asks Tom what the bread and the eggs cost.

### 4. Saying how many you want

Tom asks how much Grace wants, and she fills her bag.

### 5. Asking for the total

Grace asks Tom what it comes to all together.

### 6. Paying in cash

Tom turns out to take cash only, so Grace pays with a forty.

### 7. Understanding your change

Tom counts out Grace's change and sends her off.
