# First steps: Ordering a drink

> Master ordering at a counter by listening to Zeynep and Burak's conversation about coffee on a quiet morning. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** A small coffee counter on a side street in Beyoğlu, İstanbul, quiet on a weekday morning. Zeynep is waiting for a friend and Burak is working the counter alone. They use siz with each other.

## Lessons

### 1. Ordering a drink at a counter

Zeynep orders a Turkish coffee and Burak checks he heard her.

### 2. Choosing single or double

Burak tries to talk Zeynep into a double and she stays with a single.

### 3. Saying how sweet you want it

Burak asks Zeynep how she takes it and she asks for medium.

### 4. Ordering one without sugar

Zeynep orders a second coffee for her friend, this one without sugar.

### 5. Adding water to the order

Zeynep asks Burak for water with the coffees.

### 6. Drinking in or taking away

Burak asks Zeynep whether they are staying and points out a table.

### 7. Collecting your drinks

Burak calls the coffees and Zeynep comes to the counter.
