# First steps: Eating out

> Listen in as Olga and Artyom talk through a dinner order in real, everyday Russian. By the end of this course their conversation will feel easy to follow, and you'll be ready to join in.

**Setting:** A small neighbourhood restaurant in Kolomna in St Petersburg on a warm evening, with a few tables out on the pavement. Olga has come for dinner with a friend and Artyom is waiting tables. Both speak to each other formally throughout.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking for a table

Olga asks Artyom for a table outside for two.

### 2. Asking for the menu

Olga asks Artyom for the menu and takes her time over it.

### 3. Ordering for two people

Olga orders the chicken for herself and the salad for her friend.

### 4. Ordering drinks with a meal

Artyom takes Olga's order for a beer and some still water.

### 5. Saying the food is good

Artyom checks on the table and offers more water.

### 6. Asking for the bill

Olga asks Artyom for the bill, and they pay together.

### 7. Saying goodbye after a meal

Olga and Artyom say goodbye at the end of the meal.
