# First steps: Eating out

> Listen in as Meera and Sanjay talk through a dinner order in real, everyday Hindi. By the end of this course their conversation will feel easy to follow, and you'll be ready to join in.

**Setting:** A small neighbourhood restaurant in Bandra in Mumbai on a warm evening, with a few tables out on the pavement. Meera has come for dinner with a friend and Sanjay is waiting tables. Both speak to each other formally throughout.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking for a table

Meera asks Sanjay for a table outside for two.

### 2. Asking for the menu

Meera asks Sanjay for the menu and takes her time over it.

### 3. Ordering for two people

Meera orders the chicken for herself and the dal for her friend.

### 4. Ordering drinks with a meal

Sanjay takes Meera's order for a lassi and some water.

### 5. Saying the food is good

Sanjay checks on the table and offers more water.

### 6. Asking for the bill

Meera asks Sanjay for the bill and pays by card.

### 7. Saying goodbye after a meal

Meera and Sanjay say goodbye at the end of the meal.
