# First steps: Ordering a drink

> Master ordering at a counter by listening to Nina and Emre's conversation about coffee on a quiet morning. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** A small corner café in Berlin-Kreuzberg, quiet in the middle of the morning. Nina comes in most days and Emre is alone behind the counter. They hold Sie with each other.

## Lessons

### 1. Ordering a drink at a counter

Emre asks Nina what she would like, twice, and she orders a coffee.

### 2. Choosing a size

Nina asks for a small, then changes her mind and tells Emre she wants a large.

### 3. Choosing which milk you want

Emre asks Nina which kind of milk she would like.

### 4. Asking for no sugar

Nina tells Emre she wants no sugar, and he reads the order back.

### 5. Adding to your order

Nina adds a peppermint tea and a water to her order.

### 6. Drinking in or taking away

Nina says she is staying, and Emre tells her to take a seat.

### 7. Collecting your drinks

Emre brings the drinks over and warns Nina that the coffee is hot.
