# First steps: Ordering a drink

> Master ordering at a counter by listening to Maude and Félix's conversation about coffee on a quiet morning. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** A small café on a corner in the Mile End in Montréal, quiet in the middle of the morning. Maude has been in a few times and Félix is alone behind the counter. They are on tu with each other.

## Lessons

### 1. Ordering a drink at a counter

Félix asks Maude what she would like, twice, and she orders a coffee.

### 2. Saying how you take your coffee

Félix asks Maude whether she wants it regular or black.

### 3. Asking for no sugar

Maude changes her mind and asks for it without sugar.

### 4. Ordering something to eat

Félix offers Maude a croissant and reads her order back.

### 5. Adding to your order

Maude adds a tea to her order.

### 6. Drinking in or taking away

Maude says she is staying, and Félix tells her to sit down.

### 7. Collecting your drinks

Félix brings the drinks over and warns Maude that the coffee is hot.
