# First steps: Ordering a drink

> Master ordering at a counter by listening to Léa and Hugo's conversation about coffee on a quiet morning. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** A small corner café in Lyon, quiet in the middle of the morning. Léa comes in most days and Hugo is alone behind the counter. They hold vous with each other.

## Lessons

### 1. Ordering a drink at a counter

Hugo asks Léa what she would like, twice, and she orders a coffee.

### 2. Choosing a size

Hugo assumes Léa wants a small, and she corrects him and asks for a large.

### 3. Asking for no sugar

Léa tells Hugo she takes it without sugar.

### 4. Ordering something to eat

Hugo offers Léa a croissant and reads her order back.

### 5. Adding to your order

Léa adds a mint tea and a water to her order.

### 6. Drinking in or taking away

Léa says she is staying, and Hugo tells her to take a seat.

### 7. Collecting your drinks

Hugo brings the drinks over and warns Léa that the coffee is hot.
