# Nuovo Espresso 1, Unit 6: Renting bikes in Lucca

**Setting:** A bike rental shop just inside the city walls of Lucca on a spring morning. Carmen is in town for the day with her husband and teenage son and rents three bikes to ride round the walls; Simone sets them up and answers her questions. They use Lei with each other, and Simone says voi to the family.

## Lessons

### 1. Renting bikes for the day

Carmen asks Simone for three bikes until the evening, and he asks for a document.

### 2. Asking when a place closes

Carmen asks Simone what time the shop closes, and he tells her when the bikes have to be back.

### 3. Asking what there is to see

Simone tells Carmen about Lucca's churches, towers and walls.

### 4. Asking the way

Carmen asks Simone how to get to the Torre Guinigi, and checks the directions back.

### 5. Finding a museum closed

Carmen wants to see Puccini's house, but it's closed today, and Simone tells her when it opens.

### 6. Being sent somewhere else

Carmen asks about the bus to Pisa, and Simone sends her to the tourist office.

### 7. Choosing a bike and setting off

Carmen asks which bike is for her son, and Simone sends the family off.
