# Nuovo Espresso 1, Unit 4: Chatting on the morning train

> Master talking about your free time by listening to Giorgia and Stefano's conversation on the morning train, which pairs with the themes of unit 4 of Nuovo Espresso 1. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** The regional train from Verona to Vicenza at eight on a Friday morning. Giorgia and Stefano take this train every day and have never spoken; today it is late again, and they talk all the way to Vicenza. Her hiking boots are in a bag at her feet. They use tu with each other from the first line.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking the time

Stefano asks Giorgia the time, and they agree the train is late again.

### 2. Talking about the weekend

Giorgia is glad it's Friday, and she tells Stefano what she does on Saturday.

### 3. Saying what you do in your free time

Stefano tells Giorgia about his football on Saturdays and his books on Sundays.

### 4. Saying how often you do something

Stefano sees Giorgia's hiking boots and asks about the mountains, and she can't believe he never goes.

### 5. Saying what you like

Giorgia asks Stefano if he doesn't like the mountains, and he says what he likes better.

### 6. Agreeing and disagreeing

Giorgia and Stefano find out they both like crime novels, but only one of them likes football.

### 7. Asking why

Giorgia and Stefano ask each other why they like what they like, and get off together at Vicenza.
