> Join Hannah and Ugo for a Friday dinner at a trattoria in Florence, one short conversation at a time, pairing with the themes of unit 3 of Nuovo Espresso 1. Each lesson trains your ear until you can follow every word and answer back.

**Setting:** A small trattoria in San Frediano in Florence on a Friday evening in October. Hannah comes in with four friends and orders for the whole table; Ugo runs the trattoria and waits the tables himself. Hannah and Ugo use Lei with each other, and he says voi to the table.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking for a table

Hannah arrives with her friends, and Ugo finds them a table for five.

### 2. Ordering for the table

Ugo asks what they'd like, and Hannah orders the first courses for everyone.

### 3. Ordering drinks

Hannah orders a bottle of red for the table and a beer for Paul, and Ugo asks about water.

### 4. Asking for what's missing

Hannah tells Ugo the table is short of forks and a glass, and he brings them.

### 5. Saying the food is good

Ugo checks on the table, and Hannah tells him how good the soup and the pasta are.

### 6. Asking for the bill

Hannah asks Ugo for the bill and checks she can pay by card.

### 7. Booking a table for next week

Hannah books a table for eight for a birthday next Saturday, and spells her surname for Ugo.
