# Nuovo Espresso 1, Unit 2: Meeting at the dog park

> Listen in as Federica and Kenji get talking at a dog park in Genoa in real, everyday Italian, pairing with the themes of unit 2 of Nuovo Espresso 1. By the end of this course their conversation will feel easy to follow, and you'll be ready to join in.

**Setting:** The fenced dog area of a park above the old town in Genoa on a Sunday morning. Federica's old dog Luna and Kenji's young dog Pippo start playing, and the two owners, who have never met, start talking. They use tu with each other from the first line.

## Lessons

### 1. Starting a conversation

Federica admires Kenji's dog and asks its name, and he asks about hers.

### 2. Asking how old someone is

Kenji asks how old Luna is, and Federica is surprised how young Pippo is.

### 3. Saying sorry

Pippo jumps on Luna, Kenji says sorry, and Federica tells him it's fine.

### 4. Introducing yourself

Federica and Kenji finally tell each other their own names, and she asks where he is from.

### 5. Asking what someone does

Federica asks Kenji about his job, and he asks about hers.

### 6. Talking about languages

Federica says how well Kenji speaks Italian, and they talk about the languages they speak.

### 7. Thanking someone

Kenji gives Federica back Luna's ball, and they say goodbye until next Sunday.
