# Nuevo Prisma A1, Unit 1: Checking in on the Camino

**Language:** Spanish
**CEFR Level:** A1

> Master checking in by listening to Kieran and Begoña's conversation at a pilgrims' hostel on the Camino, which pairs with the themes of unit 1 of Nuevo Prisma A1. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** The front desk of a pilgrims' hostel in Burgos, on the Camino de Santiago, at half past eight on a May evening, not long before the hostel closes. Kieran has just arrived on foot after a long day's walk, and Begoña, a volunteer at the hostel, writes him into the register. As pilgrims and hostel volunteers do all along the Camino, they use tú with each other from the first line.

## Lessons

Kieran arrives at the hostel's front desk, and Begoña welcomes him.

### 2. Giving your name

Begoña asks Kieran his name for the register, first his first name and then his surname.

### 3. Spelling your surname

Kieran spells his surname for the register, and Begoña checks the first letter.

### 4. Saying where you're from

Begoña guesses that Kieran is English, and he tells her he is Irish, from Dublin.

### 5. Saying you didn't understand

Kieran doesn't understand Begoña's question, so she asks it again with more words.

### 6. Asking someone's name back
