# Nederlands in gang 9: A visit to the doctor

> Join Mateo and Dokter Bakker for a Monday morning visit to the GP, one short conversation at a time, pairing with the themes of chapter 9 of Nederlands in gang. Each lesson trains your ear until you can follow every word and answer back.

**Setting:** A GP's consulting room in Arnhem on a Monday morning. Mateo has had a sore throat since Saturday and a fever last night, and has stayed home from work. Dokter Bakker is his GP. They use u with each other throughout, as patients and GPs do.

## Lessons

### 1. Saying what's wrong

Dokter Bakker asks Mateo why he has come, and he tells her about his throat and his headache.

### 2. Saying how long it's been

Dokter Bakker asks Mateo how long he has been ill, and he tells her about his weekend and his night.

### 3. Answering questions about a fever

Dokter Bakker asks Mateo about his temperature, and he says he has stayed home from work.

### 4. Saying where it hurts

Mateo shows Dokter Bakker where it hurts, and says his ears are fine.

### 5. Saying what you've already taken

Mateo tells Dokter Bakker he has been taking paracetamol, and that it has helped a little.

### 6. Being examined

Dokter Bakker looks in Mateo's throat and tells him it is nothing serious.

### 7. Understanding the advice

Dokter Bakker tells Mateo how to get better, and he asks when he can go back to work.
