# Nederlands in gang 6: Dinner with a friend

**Setting:** A small restaurant in the old town of Nijmegen on a Friday evening. Noor and Ruben have been friends for years and have dinner together every few months. Noor doesn't eat meat and came by bike; Ruben always orders steak. They use je with each other from the first line.

## Lessons

### 1. Choosing from the menu

Noor and Ruben choose what to eat, and Ruben orders the steak as always.

### 2. Turning down a drink

Ruben suggests wine, but Noor has to cycle home, so they order something else.

### 3. Asking how someone likes the food

Ruben asks Noor how her pasta is, and she lets him taste it.

### 4. Saying you don't like something

Noor asks Ruben about his steak, and he admits it is not very good but won't send it back.

### 5. Turning down dessert

Ruben asks Noor if she wants dessert, but she is full, and he orders chocolate cake.

### 6. Deciding who pays

Noor suggests splitting the bill, but Ruben pays this time.

### 7. Leaving a tip

Noor and Ruben agree to round the bill up to sixty euros.
