# Nederlands in actie 8: At the recycling centre

**Language:** Dutch
**CEFR Level:** B1

> Listen in as Sophie and Niels argue about what to throw away at the recycling centre in real, everyday Dutch, pairing with the themes of chapter 8 of Nederlands in actie. By the end of this course their conversation will feel easy to follow, and you'll be ready to join in.

**Setting:** The queue of cars at the municipal recycling centre in Almere on a Saturday morning. Sophie and Niels have started clearing their attic and the car is full: wood, a broken chair, an old lamp and boxes. Sophie would rather repair things; Niels wants an empty attic. They are a couple and use je with each other.

## Lessons

### 1. Sorting waste

Sophie and Niels join the queue at the recycling centre and work out where everything goes.

### 2. Disagreeing about throwing something away

Sophie spots the lamp in the pile and won't let it go, and Niels won't repair it.

### 3. Interrupting and asking to finish

Niels tries to explain himself, Sophie cuts in, and he asks to finish.

### 4. Asking someone for their reasons

Sophie asks Niels why he is so against the repair café, and what he really means.

### 5. Ranking what matters most

Niels says a lamp hardly matters compared with flying, and Sophie has already thought about the summer.

### 6. Making an agreement

Sophie tells Niels someone wants their old cupboard, and they agree what happens to the lamp.

### 7. Getting it done

It is finally their turn, and Sophie and Niels find a container they didn't know about.
