# Nederlands in actie 11: A new artwork in town

**Language:** Dutch
**CEFR Level:** B1

> Listen in as Gerda and Milan argue about the new sculpture on their square in real, everyday Dutch, pairing with the themes of chapter 11 of Nederlands in actie. By the end of this course their conversation will feel easy to follow, and you'll be ready to join in.

**Setting:** A small square in Apeldoorn on a sunny Saturday morning in May. A new steel sculpture went up last week where a chestnut tree used to stand, and it hums when the wind blows. Milan moved onto the square last year and loves it; Gerda has lived there for forty years and does not. They use je with each other, as neighbours do.

## Lessons

### 1. Giving your opinion of a local artwork

Gerda asks Milan what he thinks of the new sculpture on their square, and they disagree completely.

### 2. Talking about sounds

Milan tells Gerda the sculpture sings in the wind, and she says she lay awake listening to it.

### 3. Saying what used to be there

Gerda tells Milan about the chestnut tree that stood on the square before the sculpture.

### 4. Describing a favourite work of art

Milan asks Gerda what art she does love, and she describes a painting while he describes the kind of art he loves.

### 5. Organising a museum visit

Milan suggests a museum trip together, and they sort out the day, the car and the tickets.

### 6. Recommending an exhibition

Gerda tells Milan about a review she read, and they decide what to see first.

### 7. Making a friendly bet

Milan bets Gerda she will love the sculpture within a year, and they agree on the stakes.
