# Nederlands in actie 10: Returning a faulty product

**Language:** Dutch
**CEFR Level:** B1

> Master complaining about a product by listening to Stijn and Ineke's conversation at a shop's service desk, which pairs with the themes of chapter 10 of Nederlands in actie. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** The service desk of an electronics shop in Dordrecht on a Monday afternoon. Ineke de Graaf bought expensive headphones here in July, after saving for six months, and the left side has stopped working. Stijn works the desk. They use u with each other throughout, as staff and customers do.

## Lessons

### 1. Saying what's wrong with a product

Ineke brings her headphones back to the shop, and Stijn asks when they were bought.

### 2. Showing it's under warranty

Stijn asks Ineke for the receipt, which she shows him on her phone, and he confirms it is still under warranty.

### 3. Hearing what happens next

Stijn explains that the headphones will be sent to the manufacturer, and how long that takes.

### 4. Negotiating a solution

Ineke asks for a new pair straight away, and Stijn offers her a loan pair in the meantime.

### 5. Talking about amounts

Stijn explains what happens if the headphones can't be repaired, and tells Ineke which model he would take.

### 6. Declining a personal question

Stijn fills in the repair form, and Ineke gives her phone number but not her date of birth.

### 7. Saying no to an extra

Stijn offers Ineke an extra warranty, and she politely says no.
