# Menschen A2.1, Unit 3: At the tourist office

> Join Hauke and Monika at a tourist office in the Alps, one short conversation at a time, pairing with the themes of Unit 3 of Menschen A2.1. Each lesson trains your ear until you can follow every word and answer back.

**Setting:** The tourist information office in Oberstdorf in the Allgäu on a Monday morning in July. Hauke, from Bremen, is here for a week with his girlfriend and has come in for ideas. Monika has worked at the desk for twenty years. They use Sie with each other throughout.

## Lessons

### 1. Greeting someone from another region

Hauke greets Monika the northern way, she answers the southern way, and he says why he has come in.

### 2. Saying which landscapes you like

Monika asks Hauke if he prefers mountains or lakes, and he wants both.

### 3. Asking about hikes

Hauke asks about easy hikes, and Monika recommends one that ends at a lake.

### 4. Rating what's on offer

Monika shows Hauke three ideas in the brochure, and he says which one he likes.

### 5. Saying what you'd like to do

Hauke would like to spend a night in a mountain hut, and Monika tells him about booking.

### 6. Asking about cycling

Hauke asks where to hire bikes, and Monika tells him the valley is good for cyclists.

### 7. Saying goodbye the local way

Hauke thanks Monika for her help, and he says goodbye the way people do here.
