**Setting:** The university canteen in Tübingen at lunchtime on a Tuesday, and it is packed. Beatriz, an exchange student from Brazil in her second week, asks if the seat at Lennart's table is free. They have never met. They use du with each other, as students do.

Beatriz asks Lennart if she can sit at his table.

Lennart asks what Beatriz has chosen, and tells her why the canteen is full today.

Beatriz asks Lennart what he eats in the morning, and he admits it's mostly coffee.

Beatriz tells Lennart about lunch and dinner in Brazil, and he tells her about dinner at his parents'.

### 5. Expressing surprise

Beatriz reads a poster about German bread and can't believe the number.

### 6. Talking about stress and food

Lennart asks Beatriz if she eats more when she's stressed, and they turn out to be opposites.

### 7. Offering to cook

Beatriz offers to cook a Brazilian dish for Lennart, and he offers to bring the bread.
