# Menschen A1.2, Unit 19: Twenty years later

**Language:** German
**CEFR Level:** A1

> Join Katja and Henrik for a twenty-year school reunion by the lake in Potsdam, one short conversation at a time, pairing with the themes of unit 19 of Menschen A1.2. Each lesson trains your ear until you can follow every word and answer back.

**Setting:** A beer garden by a lake in Potsdam on a Saturday evening in June, at a twenty-year school reunion. Katja and Henrik sat next to each other in maths and have not seen each other since school. They catch up and look across at old classmates: Jens, who had a ponytail, Nils, who never said a word, and Leonie, who was always late. They use du with each other from the first line.

## Lessons

### 1. Recognising an old classmate

Henrik spots Katja for the first time in twenty years, and she notices his glasses have gone.

### 2. Saying how someone looked

Katja points out Jens across the beer garden, and Henrik can't believe how he has changed.

### 3. Describing someone's character

Henrik spots Nils, and Katja remembers how quiet he was before Henrik tells her what he does now.

### 4. Saying what you've done

Katja asks what Henrik does now, and he tells her about his café before she says she is a midwife.

### 5. Talking about someone's habits

Katja asks about Leonie, who was always late, and Henrik says she still is.

### 6. Reacting to surprising news

Henrik asks how Katja is, and she tells him she had a baby last year.

### 7. Remembering how you were

Henrik and Katja remember how young they were, and Katja reminds him of his excuses in PE.
