# Menschen A1.1, Unit 6: Calling about a desk

**Language:** German
**CEFR Level:** A1

> Listen in as Nora and Fabian talk on the phone about a desk at a coworking space in real, everyday German, pairing with the themes of unit 6 of Menschen A1.1. By the end of this course their conversation will feel easy to follow, and you'll be ready to join in.

**Setting:** A phone call on a Monday morning. Nora is a freelance illustrator who has worked at her kitchen table for two years and wants a desk somewhere else. She calls a coworking space in Stuttgart-West, and Fabian Kraus answers at the front desk. They use Sie and surnames with each other throughout, as on any business call.

## Lessons

### 1. Answering the phone

Fabian answers the coworking space's phone, and Nora gives her name.

### 2. Saying what you need

Nora tells Fabian she needs a desk rather than an office, and he says there are three free.

### 3. Saying what you don't have

Nora has no printer at home, so she asks Fabian about one.

### 4. Asking about equipment

Nora asks Fabian about screens, and he tells her what they do and don't have.

### 5. Asking again on a bad line

Nora asks what a desk costs, but the line is bad and she asks Fabian to say it again.

### 6. Arranging to come by

Nora says she will come by tomorrow to have a look, and Fabian says he will be there.

### 7. Ending a phone call

Nora thanks Fabian, and they end the call the way Germans do on the phone.
