# Menschen A1.1, Unit 5: Finding a present

**Language:** German
**CEFR Level:** A1

> Master shopping for a present by listening to Oskar and Gabi's conversation in a small shop in Freiburg, which pairs with the themes of unit 5 of Menschen A1.1. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** A small shop of handmade things in the old town of Freiburg on a weekday afternoon: wooden boards, cups and odd little objects. Oskar's sister has her birthday on Saturday and loves cooking. Gabi owns the shop and made half of what's on the shelves herself. They use Sie with each other throughout.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking what something is

Oskar picks up something shaped like a duck, and Gabi tells him what it really is.

### 2. Asking what it's made of

Oskar asks Gabi what different things in the shop are made of.

### 3. Saying what you're looking for

Gabi asks Oskar if he is looking for a present, and finds something for his sister.

### 4. Asking about colours

Oskar likes a cup and asks Gabi if there is one in blue.

### 5. Asking someone to repeat a price

Gabi tells Oskar what the cup costs, and he mishears the number.

### 6. Saying thank you

Gabi wraps the board as a present, and Oskar thanks her.

### 7. Giving your name and number

The blue cup can be there tomorrow, so Gabi takes Oskar's name and phone number.
