# First steps: Hello and who I am

> Master meeting a neighbour by listening to Ola and Piotr's conversation about moving into the building. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** The stairwell of an apartment building in Warsaw on a warm, sunny weekday morning. Ola moved in at the weekend and runs into Piotr, who has lived here for years, on her way out. They hold the polite pan and pani form from the first line.

## Lessons

### 1. Greeting a neighbour

Ola and Piotr say hello in the stairwell, and she mentions she is new.

### 2. Asking someone's name

Ola and Piotr exchange names, and he has to check he heard hers right.

### 3. Welcoming someone somewhere new

Piotr welcomes Ola to the building and she thanks him.

### 4. Asking how someone is

Ola and Piotr ask after each other and both say they are well.

### 5. Talking about the weather

Ola and Piotr agree it is a beautiful sunny morning.

### 6. Saying you have to go

Piotr has to leave, and Ola says she is off to work.

### 7. Saying goodbye for the day

Ola and Piotr say goodbye at the door and arrange to see each other tomorrow.
