# First steps: Hello and who I am

> Master meeting a neighbour by listening to Anouk and Bram's conversation about moving into the building. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** The hallway of an apartment building in de Pijp in Amsterdam on a warm, sunny weekday morning. Anouk moved in at the weekend and runs into Bram, who has lived here for years, on her way out. They use je with each other from the first line.

## Lessons

### 1. Greeting a neighbour

Anouk and Bram say hello in the hallway, and she mentions she is new.

### 2. Asking someone's name

Anouk and Bram exchange names, and he has to check he heard hers right.

### 3. Welcoming someone somewhere new

Bram welcomes Anouk to the building and she thanks him.

### 4. Asking how someone is

Anouk and Bram ask after each other and both say they are well.

### 5. Talking about the weather

Anouk and Bram agree it is a beautiful sunny morning.

### 6. Saying you have to go

Bram has to leave, and Anouk says she is off to work.

### 7. Saying goodbye for the day

Anouk and Bram say goodbye at the door and arrange to see each other tomorrow.
