# First steps: Hello and who I am

> Master meeting a neighbour by listening to Marta and Diego's conversation about moving into the building. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** The entrance hall of a building in the Lavapiés district of Madrid, on a sunny weekday morning. Marta has just moved in and runs into Diego, who has lived here for years, on her way out. They use tú with each other from the first line.

## Lessons

### 1. Greeting a neighbour

Marta and Diego say hello in the entrance hall, and she mentions she is new.

### 2. Asking someone's name

Marta and Diego exchange names, and he has to check he heard hers right.

### 3. Saying pleased to meet you

Diego welcomes Marta to the building and she thanks him.

### 4. Asking how someone is

Marta and Diego ask after each other and both say they are well.

### 5. Talking about the weather

Diego and Marta agree it is a beautiful sunny day.

### 6. Saying you have to go

Diego and Marta both have to leave, and say it was good to meet.

### 7. Saying goodbye for the day

Marta and Diego say goodbye at the door and arrange to see each other tomorrow.
