# First steps: Hello and who I am

> Master meeting a neighbour by listening to Anya and Igor's conversation about moving into the building. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** The entrance hall of an apartment building in Basmanny in Moscow on a warm, sunny weekday morning. Anya moved in at the weekend and runs into Igor, who has lived here for years, on her way out. Both speak to each other formally throughout.

## Lessons

### 1. Greeting a neighbour

Anya and Igor say hello in the hall, and she mentions she is new.

### 2. Asking someone's name

Anya and Igor exchange names, and he has to check he heard hers right.

### 3. Saying pleased to meet you

Igor tells Anya he is pleased to meet her and welcomes her in.

### 4. Asking how someone is

Igor asks Anya how she is and they both say they are well.

### 5. Talking about the weather

Igor and Anya agree it is a beautiful sunny morning.

### 6. Saying you have to go

Igor says he has to go, and Anya is on her way to work too.

### 7. Saying goodbye for the day

Anya and Igor say goodbye at the door and agree to see each other tomorrow.
