# First steps: Hello and who I am

> Master meeting a neighbour by listening to Mette and Jens's conversation about moving into the building. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** The stairwell of an apartment building on Nørrebro in Copenhagen on a warm, sunny weekday morning. Mette moved in at the weekend and runs into Jens, who has lived here for years, on her way out. They use du with each other.

## Lessons

### 1. Greeting a neighbour

Mette and Jens say hello in the stairwell, and she mentions she is new.

### 2. Asking someone's name

Mette and Jens exchange names, and he has to check he heard hers right.

### 3. Welcoming someone somewhere new

Jens welcomes Mette to the building and she thanks him.

### 4. Asking how someone is

Mette and Jens ask after each other and both say they are well.

### 5. Talking about the weather

Mette and Jens agree it is a beautiful sunny morning.

### 6. Saying you have to go

Jens has to leave, and Mette says she is off to work.

### 7. Saying goodbye for the day

Mette and Jens say goodbye at the door and arrange to see each other tomorrow.
