# First steps: Hello and who I am

> Master meeting a neighbour by listening to Bauer and Weber's conversation about moving into the building. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** The entrance hall of an apartment building in Berlin-Neukölln on a warm, sunny weekday morning. Bauer moved in at the weekend and runs into Weber, who has lived here for years, on her way out. Both hold Sie from the first line.

## Lessons

### 1. Greeting a neighbour

Bauer and Weber say hello in the entrance hall, and she mentions she is new.

### 2. Asking someone's name

Bauer and Weber exchange names, and he has to check he heard hers right.

### 3. Welcoming someone somewhere new

Weber welcomes Bauer to the building and she thanks him.

### 4. Asking how someone is

Bauer and Weber ask after each other and both say they are well.

### 5. Talking about the weather

Bauer and Weber agree it is a beautiful sunny morning.

### 6. Saying you have to go

Weber and Bauer both have to leave, and say it was good to meet.

### 7. Saying goodbye for the day

Bauer and Weber say goodbye at the door and arrange to see each other tomorrow.
