# First steps: Hello and who I am

> Master meeting a neighbour by listening to Marcela and Álvaro's conversation about moving into the building. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** The entrance hall of a building in the Chapinero district of Bogotá, on a bright weekday morning. Marcela has just moved in and runs into Álvaro, who has lived here for years, on her way out. They use usted with each other from the first line.

## Lessons

### 1. Greeting a neighbour

Marcela and Álvaro say hello in the hall, and she mentions she is new.

### 2. Asking someone's name

Marcela and Álvaro exchange names, and he has to check he heard hers right.

### 3. Saying pleased to meet you

Álvaro tells Marcela he is pleased to meet her and welcomes her in.

### 4. Asking how someone is

Marcela and Álvaro ask after each other and both say they are well.

### 5. Talking about the weather

Álvaro and Marcela agree it is a beautiful sunny morning.

### 6. Saying you have to go

Álvaro has to go and Marcela says she does too.

### 7. Saying goodbye for the day

Marcela and Álvaro say goodbye at the door and agree to see each other tomorrow.
