# First steps: Where I'm from

> Listen in as Nakamura and Okada talk about where they come from in real, everyday Japanese. By the end of this course their conversation will feel easy to follow, and you'll be ready to join in.

**Setting:** An izakaya in Tokyo, at a company welcome party. Nakamura and Okada both joined this month and are talking to each other for the first time tonight. Both hold polite です・ます form from the first line.

## Lessons

### 1. Saying which region you're from

Nakamura and Okada find out they come from opposite ends of the country.

### 2. Asking someone to repeat something

Okada misses the name of Nakamura's city and asks him to say it again.

### 3. Asking which city someone is from

Nakamura asks Okada the same question, and she names her part of Osaka.

### 4. Saying where you live now

Nakamura and Okada discover they live two stops apart in Tokyo.

Nakamura and Okada compare how much English they each have.

### 6. Saying where you want to travel

Okada and Nakamura talk about the places in Japan they still want to see.

### 7. Saying where your family lives

Nakamura and Okada say where their families are.
