# Édito A1, Unit 3: Lunch at a deli

**Language:** French
**CEFR Level:** A1

> Master ordering food by listening to Malik and Sandrine's conversation at a little deli in Nantes, which pairs with the themes of unit 3 of Édito A1. It may feel challenging at first, but by the end of this course you will be able to fully understand and participate.

**Setting:** A small deli in Nantes on a weekday lunchtime, with a cheese counter at the front and three tables at the back. Sandrine owns it and cooks one dish a day. Malik works in an office round the corner and comes in for the first time. They use vous with each other throughout, as shopkeepers and customers do.

## Lessons

Malik comes into the deli for the first time and asks Sandrine what there is for lunch.

### 2. Asking what's in a dish

### 3. Ordering lunch

Malik orders the quiche with salad and water, and tells Sandrine he will eat there.

### 4. Giving your opinion of a dish

Sandrine asks Malik if he likes the quiche, and tells him where the leeks come from.

### 5. Buying cheese to take home

Before he leaves, Malik buys a piece of cheese for the evening, and Sandrine checks the size.

### 6. Asking where something is

Malik also wants yoghurts, and Sandrine tells him where they are.

### 7. Asking the price and paying

Sandrine adds up the lunch, the cheese and the yoghurts, and Malik pays by card.
