# First steps: Eating out

> Listen in as Ida and Stefan talk through a dinner order in real, everyday German. By the end of this course their conversation will feel easy to follow, and you'll be ready to join in.

**Setting:** A small neighbourhood restaurant in München-Giesing on a warm evening, with a few tables out on the pavement. Ida has come for dinner with a friend and Stefan is waiting tables. Both hold Sie throughout.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking for a table

Ida asks Stefan for a table outside for two.

### 2. Asking for the menu

Ida asks Stefan for the menu and takes her time over it.

### 3. Ordering for two people

Ida orders the schnitzel for herself and the salad for her friend.

### 4. Ordering drinks with a meal

Stefan takes Ida's order for a beer and some still water.

### 5. Saying the food is good

Stefan checks on the table, and Ida asks for more water.

### 6. Asking for the bill

Ida asks Stefan for the bill, and they pay together.

### 7. Saying goodbye after a meal

Ida and Stefan say goodbye at the end of the meal.
