# First steps: Eating out

> Listen in as Kate and Andrew talk through a dinner order in real, everyday English. By the end of this course their conversation will feel easy to follow, and you'll be ready to join in.

**Setting:** A small neighbourhood restaurant in Manchester on a warm evening, with a few tables out on the pavement. Kate has come for dinner with a friend and Andrew is waiting tables.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking for a table

Kate asks Andrew for a table outside for two.

### 2. Asking for the menu

Kate asks Andrew for the menu and takes her time over it.

### 3. Ordering for two people

Kate orders the chicken for herself and the salad for her friend.

### 4. Ordering drinks with a meal

Andrew takes Kate's order for a beer and some tap water.

### 5. Saying the food is good

Andrew checks on the table and offers more water.

### 6. Asking for the bill

Kate asks Andrew for the bill, and they pay together.

### 7. Saying goodbye after a meal

Kate and Andrew say goodbye after she has paid.
