# First steps: Eating out

> Listen in as Elena and Marco talk through a dinner order in real, everyday Italian. By the end of this course their conversation will feel easy to follow, and you'll be ready to join in.

**Setting:** A small neighbourhood restaurant near Piazza Maggiore in Bologna on a warm evening, with a few tables out under the portico. Elena has come for dinner with a friend and Marco is waiting tables. Both hold Lei throughout.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking for a table

Elena asks Marco for a table outside for two.

### 2. Asking for the menu

Elena asks Marco for the menu and takes her time over it.

### 3. Ordering for two people

Elena orders the chicken for herself and the salad for her friend.

### 4. Ordering drinks with a meal

Marco takes Elena's order for a beer and some still water.

### 5. Saying the food is good

Marco checks on the table and offers more water.

### 6. Asking for the bill

Elena asks Marco for the bill, and they pay together.

### 7. Saying goodbye after a meal

Elena and Marco say goodbye at the end of the meal.
