# First steps: Eating out

> Listen in as Salma and Ashraf talk through a dinner order in real, everyday Egyptian Arabic. By the end of this course their conversation will feel easy to follow, and you'll be ready to join in.

**Setting:** A small neighbourhood restaurant in Alexandria on a warm evening, with a few tables out on the pavement. Salma has come for dinner with a friend and Ashraf is waiting tables. Both speak to each other politely throughout.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking for a table

Salma asks Ashraf for a table outside for two.

### 2. Asking for the menu

Salma asks Ashraf for the menu and takes her time over it.

### 3. Ordering for two people

Salma orders the chicken for herself and the salad for her friend.

### 4. Ordering drinks with a meal

Ashraf takes Salma's order for a juice and some water.

### 5. Saying the food is good

Ashraf checks on the table and offers more water.

### 6. Asking for the bill

Salma asks Ashraf for the bill and pays by card.

### 7. Saying goodbye after a meal

Salma and Ashraf say goodnight at the end of the meal.
